Prevent Damage to Your Equipment: Washer Load Sizing

It's important to load washers properly to ensure good wash quality and minimize the machines' long-term wear and tear.

You can fill the washer quite full with soiled goods. The wash goods will settle and loosen up in the wash tub after being saturated with water early in the cycle. When the goods are fully saturated, watch when the goods settle while the washer is changing direction: you want to see an opening on top roughly from 11 o'clock to 1 o'clock. Sticking to this guideline will ensure proper laundering of the goods by allowing for proper balance and mechanical wash action.

It is best to wash similar goods together in the same load. If you can do loads exclusively of one type of laundered good, this is the best, as it allows for the most consistent laundering process. If you mix different items in the same load (e.g., cotton sheets and pillowcases, terry towels and wash cloths together, etc.), please double-check from time to time that your mix is not causing too much bunching. Washing certain kinds of dissimilar goods together can lead to impaired wash quality, bunching up of goods, and unnecessary out-of-balance/vibration in the extract cycles.
