Service Tips from Ed JensenTouchscreen-Equipped Washers and Dryers - Cleaning Tips |
|
The addition of new technology to the commercial laundry industry has brought many improvements and conveniences for operator experience, programming, and troubleshooting.
With any new technology, it is a good idea to learn how to care for it appropriately so as to extend the equipment’s life.
Avoid spraying touchscreens: If harsh chemicals or excessive water is sprayed directly onto screens, the liquid can sometimes infiltrate the electronics, potentially leading to future issues, even a need for screen replacement in some cases. To avoid such an expense, it is recommended that you advise your staff to use a dry microfiber cloth to clean the touchscreen when needed.
When disinfecting is necessary: With the machine turned off, apply a LIGHT spray of 70% isopropyl alcohol (preferably to the cleaning cloth rather than directly to the screen), followed by a thorough wipe down of the screen to remove any excess. Ensure the screen is dried thoroughly. Other cleaning solutions may infiltrate the electronics, accumulate, and potentially corrode or otherwise damage sensitive microprocessors.
If operators are often processing excessively-soiled linens, it may also be advisable to have them use a stylus rather than their fingers to operate the touchscreen.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
