Service Tips from Ed Jensen

Dryers Not Heating? Troubleshooting Tips

I have gotten a lot of calls lately on dryers not heating. I want to go over a few things to check when this happens:

1. Is there power to the dryer? If yes, does the control light up on the dryer display? Does the light on the ignition control module light up? If there is power and lights are not on, ignition control module has failed.

2. If all above items are OK and you still have no heat, check to see if you are getting spark. If no spark, replace your high voltage lead wire. If you are getting spark then check to see if you’re getting voltage to your gas valve. If you are and you just not getting gas then it’s your gas valve or your pressure regulator.

3. If all of these check out, you should remove your burner tubes and clean them with warm water.

4. And a reminder, you should get your exhaust vents cleaned once a year for proper air flow. Make sure there is no bird screen on the exhaust outside the building – screen will clog! Clogged vents can lead to no heat because your airflow switch is not pulling in. Remember I am just a phone call away for technical support at 651-288-4857

Monthly: Inspect and replace worn belts. Check washers for noise in main bearings, motors. Debris caught between drum and shell can also cause noise. Inspect the anchor bolts and grout.

Yearly: Have main drains professionally cleaned to prevent them from backing up or causing odor by standing water in troughs. Check the screens in the fill hoses. Clean them or replace them. Dirty screens mean slow fills. A little preventive maintenance for your washers and dryers will make your laundry run more efficiently and reduce break downs.
