MCC Service Tips

Commercial Laundry Equipment Maintenance Recommendations

1. Read Your Equipment Manual

This may seem like extremely basic advice, but the best information on your equipment is generally contained in its own manuals, and fewer people refer to their manuals than you might think. These manuals often reference the recommended PM schedule for that machine, its troubleshooting tips, and other guidance specific to your equipment. It is the best place to start. If you do not have a copy of your manuals, please reach out to Minnesota Chemical with the make, model, and serial number; we will likely have a copy.

2. Regularly and Proactively Inspect Your Equipment Rather Than Waiting for a Problem

Don’t wait for a problem to show up; give all your commercial/industrial laundry equipment a good inspection at the beginning and end of a workday. The more regularly you inspect your machines, the more likely you’ll spot an issue before it becomes a costly problem.

3. Stick to a Regular Maintenance Schedule

It can be easy to let regular maintenance tasks fall through the cracks. Letting that happen, however, can cost you a lot of money and downtime down the road. Having a regular maintenance schedule makes it easy to keep up with important to-do items, holds employees accountable, and keeps maintenance on track — even when time is at a premium.

4. Document Your Work

Having an ongoing record of your maintenance, repairs, issues, alerts, and errors not only allows you to keep better track of your equipment’s performance and keep important maintenance tasks from being forgotten, it also will assist our service technicians when they are called out when you are unable to complete your own repairs, thus saving you money!

5. Clean the Lint Screen on Your Dryers Every Day

Lint buildup is a component of or the sole cause of most dryer fires. Clean the lint from the screen and lint compartment at least once or twice a day, and ideally after each use. This helps to maintain airflow, to prevent overheating of your commercial dryer, and to minimize the buildup of rogue lint.

6. Leave Washer Doors Open When Not in Use

Moisture and mildew are the bane of washers. Keeping the doors on your washer-extractors open allows proper airflow and helps to allow moisture to evaporate, preventing any mold or mildew from building up in the machines.

7. Keep Machines and the Surrounding Areas Clean

A clean OPL operation is more sanitary and pleasant to work in, but beyond that: frequently wiping down your machines, cleaning out the compartments, sweeping, and mopping can help prevent major issues and keep your machines running longer. Dirt and debris around your machines can be a fire hazard or get inside your machines and cause damage.

8. Make Use of Your Local Manufacturer and Service Support

Minnesota Chemical and our trusted vendors are here to help you. Today’s commercial laundry equipment is more advanced than ever. Any issues dealing with control panels or electrical components can be especially tricky if you’re not specially trained. With that in mind, it’s better to be safe than sorry. If you’re ever unsure about how to fix something, don’t hesitate to contact Minnesota Chemical—we will help you get to the right solution whether by phone or via a service visit.

Please contact MCC service anytime M-F during regular hours with your service questions at 651-288-4857 or service@minnesotachemical.com.
