Overloading Dryers Can Cause Damage

Overloading a dryer will cause damage and premature wear to trunnion and bearings and wear on belts and motors. Overloading is counterproductive, as an overloaded dryer does not dry properly or quickly. Goods must tumble and separate, not roll in a ball, to dry rapidly and evenly. Whirlpool-ADC and Huebsch-Alliance recommend filling a dryer to 1/2 to 2/3 capacity. That means it is best to split a 60# washer load into two loads for a 50 or 75 lb dryer. 

The cost to replace a trunnion and bearing can reach $2,000 with parts and labor. If a trunnion is not replaced promptly and the basket sags forward, it could rub on the cabinet and cause more damage. If you hear a noise, investigate and call us. 

Other tips to assure proper drying: use reversing for items that tangle such as sheets and comforters. Use nonreverse for clothing, towels, and pillow cases. Clean lint screens after every shift, at breaks, and at lunch as needed. Vacuum out top of dryer annually. The company that cleans your facility's kitchen ductwork can clean dryer ducts.
