Service Tips from Ed Jensen

Cleaning Huebsch dryer lint compartment – older models

Proper and regular cleaning of your dryer lint compartment is crucial, BUT not doing so carefully and correctly can sometimes cause unexpected damage.

I often take calls from customers who tell me the digital display on their older Huebsch dryer has gone blank. After discussion and investigation, I find a wire just above the lint filter in the lint compartment has been knocked off by laundry staff cleaning the lint compartment too aggressively. If the wire in the compartment going to the thermistor is disconnected it shorts out on the frame causing the display to go blank. Voltage runs to a connected thermistor, and if it has a short, this may damage the dryer’s display board and/or the control board. The cost of these boards together is about $800.00! (Note that new Huebsch dryers have moved thermistors to the rear of the dryer so they are no longer in harm’s way. ADC dryers may have thermistors in the lint area – check before you brush.)

A few minutes of educating your laundry staff to be mindful of the electronics overhead in the lint compartment when they clean lint may prevent expensive repairs.

Clean lint compartment several times per day – but clean carefully!!
